If you are looking for a change from regular sandwiches and want a flavourful breakfast, this recipe is for you! Every time I prepare this dish at home, I have no leftovers. It’s gobbled up in no time. I typically prepare this as an evening snack as it’s a perfect compliment to my chai. Do give this a try and you won’t regret it:)
Time:
- Prep time – 15 minutes
- Cook time – 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- Bread Slices – 10 slices
- Cut the sides of each slice and throw. Then, cut the white part into squares and set aside
- Option of using brown bread if you want a healthier alternative
- Indian green chilli (chopped) – 2
- Large Red Onion (chopped) – 1
- White Potato (Boiled and mashed) – 1
- Ghee (or Clarified Butter) – 4 tsp
- Olive oil – 1 tsp
- Garam Masala – 1 tsp
- Mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
- Dried red chilli – 1
- Curry leaves – 5
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Coriander leaves for garnish
Method:
- Heat the ghee in a pan and fry the square bread pieces until they are golden. You are looking for toasted bread pieces as the texture. Set aside the prepared bread
- In the same pan, heat the olive oil. Add the mustard seeds, dried red chilli, and onion. Saute till the onions are soft and translucent
- Add the green chilli and curry leaves. Saute for a few minutes
- Add the garam masala and salt
- Add the mashed potatoes and mix well with the rest until well combined
- Add the bread slices and mix well until the potato mixture is evenly distributed around the bread. Be careful not to break the bread
- Garnish with coriander leaves and enjoy:)
