I am Indian, raised in India and Malaysia, worked for a Swedish company, and now living in the US. The best part of it all? The FOOD! I have always loved food with a fervent passion. Whether it was exploring Pinterest for mouth watering recipes, watching Gordon Ramsey turn simple ingredients into a feast, or getting hooked onto Masterchef to name a few. Food has been much more than nutrition. Tasty food gives me a giddy high, nourishes my heart, and brings joy in my mind.
I come from a family of great cooks. All of them Masterchefs in my eyes. They all had their unique dishes which they were known for. It wasn't until a year ago that I started to cook. I was guided by my family of cooks who made everything sound so simple and effortless. The experience took me to a new level of not just appreciating the taste and presentation of food, but understanding the non-physical aspects of food. There was love and hard work in my cooking. I once cooked when I was in a bad mood, the result? Horrible flavors and ugly food. There is some truth to the saying “A way to a man’s heart is through his stomach”, without love, food wouldn’t taste so great! I soon came to realize that cooking is not only about understanding your ingredients and bringing it all together for an appetizing dish, but also channeling your love into your food.
This recipe blog will bring to you all the dishes that I prepare for me and my husband. We love our Indian food for most of the week, so you will find a lot of recipes from India and specifically Kerala. I will also keep a timetable out there for those who would like to plan a weekly food schedule which is balanced, healthy and great for weight loss. All we need is a lot of different colored vegetables and lean meats. Although, a little chocolate now and then wouldn't hurt ;). Here, I am inspired by Anthony Bourdain and I quote him, “your body is not a temple, it's an amusement park. Enjoy the ride.” So, don’t let yourself get sucked into a boring culinary experience, get out there and explore, your body is up for it!
For all the first time cooks out there, I understand that it's never easy to understand recipes no matter how simple an experienced cook might think it sounds. Hence, I will do my best to make my recipes as simple as possible.
Hope you all enjoy the recipes I post and may they spread joy to you as they have been to me and my family. Happy exploring :)
