Beef Fried Rice

I have been enjoying a lot of fried rice lately. It’s been my go-to recipe every time I’m unsure of what to cook. Instead of cooking one type of fried rice, I have mixed it up to try something new! I have previously posted egg fried rice and vegetable fried rice. Those who have tried those came back with, great reviews so I wanted something for the meat lovers! This time, I bring you Beef Fried Rice. For all of you who don’t enjoy this meat or don’t eat it, you can substitute it with a meat of your choice 🙂


  • Prep time – 20 minutes
  • Cook time – 20 minutes

Ingredients for the Beef:

  • Diced Beef (Taco Style Chunks) – 600 g
  • Kecap Manis (Sweet Soy Sauce) – 2 tsp
  • Cornstarch – 2 tsp
  • Baking Soda – 1/4 tsp
  • Water – 2 tbsp
  • Olive Oil – 2 tsp
  • Salt – 1/2 tsp

Ingredients for the Rice:

  • Basmati Rice – 4 cups (160 ml cup size)
    • Cook 4 cups of rice and once done place in the freezer. You need cold rice when making fried rice 🙂
  • Red Onion (Finely Chopped) – 1.5 cups
  • Cooked Peas – 1/2 cup
  • Eggs (Scrambled until almost done in 2 tsp of Olive Oil) – 2
  • Green Onion (Chopped) – 4
  • Shaoxing Wine – 1 tbsp
    • If you don’t have Shaoxing Wine, use dry sherry or dry white wine
  • White Pepper – 1/4 tsp
  • Kecap Manis (Sweet Soy Sauce) – 2 tsp
  • Low Sodium Soy Sauce – 1.5 tbsp
  • Sesame Oil – 1/2 tsp
  • Brown Sugar – 1/2 tsp
  • Hot Water – 1 tbsp
  • Canola Oil – 3 tbsp (Divided)


  1. Mix the ingredients for the beef together and let this marinate for 10 minutes
  2. In a small bowl, combine the Shaoxing wine, white pepper, kecap manis, low sodium soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar and hot water. Set aside
  3. Heat a deep dish pan with 2 tbsp of the canola oil. Add the marinated beef and mix well. Saute the beef for 10 minutes on medium heat
  4. After 10 minutes, spread the beef so that one side gets seared. Then toss it again and let it sear more (To sear, spread the beef pieces so that it is in a single layer in the pan and let it cook for 1 minute on medium heat)
  5. Once the beef is done, take it out of the pan and set aside
  6. In the same pan, heat 1 tbsp of the canola oil. Add the onions and saute till they are golden brown
  7. Add the beef once the onions are done. Mix it together for 2 minutes
  8. Add the cold cooked rice and gently mix everything. Remove the clumps from the rice gently
  9. Add the peas and green onions. Mix it well
  10. Pour the sauce mixture prepared in step 2 over the rice. Mix everything on high heat until well combined
  11. Once everything is mixed well, add the scrambled eggs and mix once again
  12. Serve warm 🙂
