I make chicken wings as a snack almost every weekend! I try to make it different all the time: BBQ wings, honey glazed wings, spicy wings, buffalo wings etcetera. This week it was sweet and spicy chicken wings which filled my home with a delicious aroma and tasted so good all I heard was oooh’s and ahhh’s! This is a must try if you want a great balance of sweet, spicy, acidic and crunchy 🙂

- Cook time – 50 minutes
Ingredients for the chicken:
- Chicken Party Wings – 500 g
- Unsalted Butter (Melted) – 1 tbsp
- Sesame oil – 1 tbsp
- Garlic Powder – 1 tsp
- Salt – 1/4 tsp
- Cayenne pepper – 1/8 tsp
Ingredients for the sauce:
- Unsalted Butter – 1.5 tbsp
- Crushed Red Pepper Flakes – 1/8 tsp heaping
- Cornstarch – 1/4 tsp
- Sesame Seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Ginger (Finely chopped) – 1/4 tsp
- Fresh Lime Juice – 1 tsp
- Distilled White Vinegar – 1 tsp
- Honey – 1 tbsp
- Sriracha sauce – 1 tbsp
- Low Sodium Soy Sauce – 1 tsp
- Coriander Leaves – 1 tbsp
Method:
- Preheat the oven to 400 F
- Wash and dry the chicken wings thoroughly. Keep them in a large mixing bowl
- In another bowl, mix the ingredients for the chicken only and pour this over the chicken wings in the mixing bowl. Mix the marinade and the chicken wings altogether and place the wings on a baking tray or dish
- Bake the chicken wings for 20 minutes at 400F. After 20 minutes, flip the wings, and bake the other side for 20 minutes at 400F
- While the chicken is cooking, prepare the sauce. In a small pan, melt the butter over medium- low heat
- Add the crushed red pepper and ginger. Keep mixing for a minute
- Add the honey, sriracha, low sodium soy sauce, fresh lime juice, and distilled white vinegar. Keep mixing for 2 minutes
- Add the cornstarch and mix until it is well incorporated into the sauce. Set the pan aside and let it rest while the chicken continues baking
- Once the chicken wings are cooked on both sides, take it out of the oven. Pour away any excess oil in the baking dish. Meanwhile, turn your oven to broil setting at 400F
- Pour the sauce over the chicken and coat the chicken properly with the sauce
- Place the baking dish back into the oven and let it broil the chicken for 3.5 minutes at 400F. Once complete, take the dish out of the oven
- Garnish the chicken wings with sesame seeds and cilantro. Serve with some lime wedges if you want an extra kick 🙂
